What is a visa?

A visa enables a person to travel to the nation today, seek medical care, etc. Usually, a visitor is issued a visa by the embassy for an entire month, although this may vary from country to country. There are also three different types of visas. A tourist visa permits the holder to travel for up to 90 days within 180 days. A business visa allows the holder to work or conduct business.

A tourist visa allows the holder to travel for up to 3 months within 6 months I need to have an invitation letter to prove my intentions? If you qualify for a visa, you must apply for a visa. You also need to provide adequate proof to prove that you are in Uganda for legitimate reasons.

Requirements for a visa

You must have a job offer for work that pays a minimum of $500 per month. If you do not have a job offer, you will need to make an offer to the government and request the required budget for Uganda. The budget will be based on the National minimum wage and unemployment rate. The required budget will be paid to you at the Uganda Embassy. 

If you do not have the budget, you will have to pay for the visa. You will need to provide a letter from your bank stating the money you plan to spend and your proof of income.

Who is eligible for the Uganda Visa?

  1. Applicants who are leaving for Uganda are eligible for the visa as long as the purpose of their visit is solely to study.
  2. An applicant, who is going to do their primary field of study in Uganda
  3. Medical doctors or health-related volunteers for not less than one year
  4. A journalist or working journalist, if their field of work will be journalism or reporting on a newsworthy event

This is not a comprehensive list but only the most common type of visa requirements in Uganda.  

To obtain a visa, you must be married or have a partner who has a valid passport, visa, and the couple needs to apply together.

How to apply for a visa
