Sometimes, the 30 day period is not enough to enjoy this marvelously beautiful country. Hence, people often seek out for visa extensions. If you are wondering on how to extend your visa and stay for more than the given time, read below.

The visa stay validity for the country is generally for 30 days. However, the multiple entry 90 days visa is only available to the citizens of the United States of America.

To extend your e visa, you need to visit the immigration center which is located in Dar es Salaam. It is not possible to extend the validity online, as of now.

Therefore, to extend your visa, you need to visit the immigration centre there, and fill out the application form. Your request will get accepted in a few days.

If you have planned on extending your visa before reaching the country, you will have to wait till you reach. It is extremely important to extend your visa before it expires to avoid certain fines and penalties.

You should, by all means, avoid overstaying in the country. Overstaying basically means staying in the country even after the visa has expired. It is not legal to stay if your visa has expired, and you may have to pay heavy fines if you do so.

However, there is an overstay grace period in the country. The grace period lasts for 30 days. You should keep in mind that the grace period is only allowed to people who acquire the resident visa. People on business visas as well as tourist visas are not allowed this grace period.

So what should you do if you overstay?

  •         After you have realized that you have already overstayed, you need to head straight to the immigration office at Dar Es Salaam.
  •         You will be issued a pass there. To get that you will have to pay a fine of $600.
  •         The penalty is not negotiable. Everyone is obliged to pay the fine after you have overstayed.
  •         After paying the penalty, you will be given a pass. After that, you will have to leave the country after two days.
  •         When you visit the immigration office, your passport may be put on hold. Then you will be asked to buy a return ticket.
  •         After you give the proof of your return ticket, your passport will be handed back to you.

Hence, you should apply for a visa extension before it expires to avoid the above mentioned steps.

The maximum stay period one gets after getting the extension is for 3 months only.
