THE PASSPORT

A valid passport is required for all travelers who are from a visa-exempt country. However, after a certain amount of time, the passport has to maintain its validity. Depending on the nationality, the period of time varies and it may be as little as 1 month or as much as 6 months. When you schedule your journey, you can make the necessary inquiries. Around the same time, at least one blank page has to be within the passport so you can receive your stamp.

TIME ALLOWED TO STAY IN HONGKONG

Not all visa-free nationalities in Hong Kong are eligible to spend the same amount without a visa in the country. There are nationalities that are permitted to stay for as long as 6 months, and those that are only allowed for 7 days. Citizens of the United Kingdom and Macau, for example, can remain visa-free for up to 160 days in Hong Kong, while citizens of East Timor can stay visa-free for just 7 days. Just as recommended above, before going on holiday, you should do the proper research.

OTHER RELATED INFORMATION

In order to visit the Special Administrative Region, citizens of the People's Republic of China (PRC) who are not residents of Hong Kong need special travel documents, regardless of the fact that it is part of the PRC.

This is due to the special political status and autonomy of Hong Kong to determine its own rules on immigration. Mainland Chinese people can enter the HKSAR and stay there for up to 7 days with an exit permit to travel to and from Hong Kong and Macau (Two-way Permit).

Macao Special Administrative Region residents are visa-exempt and can use a Macao passport or travel permit to remain in Hong Kong for up to 7 days. Alternatively, to remain in the HKSAR for up to 180 days, a Macau Permanent Resident Identification Card or a Visit Permit for Residents of Macao to HKSAR can be used.
